
Hon. Makozo Chikote is a Cabinet Minister and Minister of Energy of the Republic of Zambia, responsible for national energy policy, legislation, and sector oversight spanning renewable energy, electricity, nuclear energy, petroleum, oil pipelines, refineries, storage, and pricing. He has led far-reaching reforms to modernise the energy sector and unlock private sector participation, including operationalisation of both the Electricity and Petroleum Open Access Frameworks.
His further achievements include the introduction of an Online Energy Single Licensing System, a 48-hour approval and permitting process, net metering and Light-Handed Regulations for power plants below 5MW. He also oversaw fiscal incentives for solar energy through the publication of a Customs Handbook for Solar PV products in 2024. Honourable Chikote holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration and a Certificate in Public Relations and Diplomatic Practice, and his policy direction has consistently advanced diversification of the national energy mix and alignment with regional integration objectives.
