H.E. Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi serves as the Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), initially appointed on 1 September 2021 and reappointed for a second four-year term in August 2025. A citizen of the Republic of Botswana, he is the seventh individual to hold this esteemed position, spearheading SADC’s mission to advance regional integration, peace, and sustainable development throughout Southern Africa.
In his role, H.E. Magosi leads the implementation of key strategic frameworks, including the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020–2030 and SADC Vision 2050. These initiatives aim to transform the region into a competitive, inclusive, and industrialised community.
With more than 30 years of experience in public administration and corporate leadership, H.E. Magosi has held senior positions within the Government of Botswana, notably as Principal Secretary to the President. His private sector tenure includes leadership roles at Standard Chartered Bank and Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited.
He holds a Master’s degree in Organisation Development from Bowling Green State University (USA), a Graduate Diploma in Management Services from the University of Bolton (UK), and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Statistics from the University of Botswana.
