Eng. Lewis Makurumure

    Mr. Lewis Makurumure is an energy and climate change professional with experience in renewable energy development, productive energy use, clean cooking, and climate finance. He has provided strategic leadership and implementation oversight for community renewable energy investments, including the Hakwata Green Village, which comprises a 200 kWp solar mini-grid, biogas digesters, and e-cooking solutions. Lewis has directed integrated solar powered irrigation schemes at Gororo (50 ha), Wanezi (37 ha), and Mlibizi (20 ha) under the UNDP Climate Adaptation Water and Energy Programme, delivering interconnected energy–water–food security, climate adaptation and mitigation outcomes. His expertise includes policy support, life cycle assessment, carbon credit accreditation under the Paris Agreement, and the integration of social inclusion within the energy sector. He has also supported Zimbabwe’s viability Gap Funding framework and mini-grid tariff development. His current focus areas include strengthening public–private partnerships, accelerating investment-ready pipelines for community mini-grid projects, and advancing the integration of solar mini-grids within net metering frameworks.
