Dr. Meggan Spires, is ICLEI Africa’s Director of Climate Change, Energy and Resilience. ICLEI is the oldest and largest sustainability focused city network. Meggan oversees ICLEI Africa’s climate change, energy, sustainable finance, and clean cooking work, and two centres of excellence that enable maximum impact: The Sustainable Finance Centre and the Clean Cooking Centre. To date the Clean Cooking Centre has:
· Established a first of its kind mechanism for enabling public/ private partnership at the local level that deploys grant funding catalytically to incentivise private sector product R&D and then scaling into previously hard to reach urban contexts.
· Enabled access to clean cooking solutions for over 70,000 low income urban residents across Uganda and Sierra Leone, demonstrating scalable uptake in markets traditionally considered high risk and hard to reach.
