Prof. Cheddi Kiravu

    Prof. Kiravu is currently Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at New Era College of Arts, Science and Technology; leading sustainable energy and engineering education. He was senior lecturer at the University of Botswana where, as Director of the Clean Energy Research Centre, he advanced clean energy initiatives in Southern Africa through research, education and advocacy for sustainable energy.


    Prof. Kiravu has participated in transformative sustainable energy research projects across the SADC region, notably PARTICIPIA, GridSolar, and SOLTRAIN; collaborating with institutions in South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Germany, Spain and Norway. These projects emphasise the importance of knowledge-sharing and innovation in sustainable energy, addressing the multifaceted socio ecological systems that research seeks to transform. Prof. Kiravu researches on the complexity of sustainable socio-ecological systems of which sustainable energy development is an example. He therefore brings to the sustainable energy development discourse, an interdisciplinary understanding of what’s at stake.

    Prof. Kiravu holds an engineering PhD in sustainable energy systems, actively promotes a sustainable energy future through research and is committed to creating a conducive environment for sustainable energy development. As a personal touch, Prof. Kiravu’s interests include leveraging engineering pedagogy and productivity on AI and being an aspiring full-stack developer proficient in the Neovim framework.
