Mr. Tichakunda Simbini

Mr. Tichakunda (Tich) Simbini serves as Principal Programme Officer – Energy at the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), where he leads the Energy Unit within the Infrastructure Digitalisation and Energy Division. In this role, he collaborates with Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Power Pools—including the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP)—Development Finance Institutions, Multilateral Development Banks, Development Partners, and Power Utilities to advance Priority Energy Infrastructure Projects under the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA).

Tich spearheads partner-funded programs, drives project identification and resource mobilization, and facilitates the implementation of African Union priority energy initiatives, with a focus on the Continental Power Systems Masterplan (CMP) and the Africa Single Electricity Market (AfSEM). These flagship Agenda 2063 projects harness Africa’s abundant natural resources to enable electricity trade across the continent’s five Power Pools, foster regional integration, and expand interconnections with Europe, the Middle East, and Asia—delivering sustainable energy solutions for socio-economic development.
